After the room switch we went to the local supermarket and picked up some bread rolls, meat and cheeze to have a picnic by the lake. Bled has a population of about 15,000 people so the village is very small. On the way to the supermarket we saw chickens just hanging out in the street, a tractor and some cute local homes.
The biggest attraction here is the lake. It is about 5 kilometres if you walked around it. It is an amazing blue, green colour and is fresh water. The temperature of the water is about 20 degrees a little fresh but once you get in it's very nice. The temperature outside is about 30 degrees most days.
We headed down to the lake were you have to pay a fee to enter the swimming area. They have a very good set up. It is nice and grassy with many trees so the whities Benny and Dianne didn't get burnt. Today we focused on getting enough vitamin D to last us in London. We lazed by the lake on their special little chairs soaking up the rays. The Europeans are very different when it comes to their swimming regime. They don't put on any sunscreen and any kid under the age of about 3 is just nude all day long. After a many hours by the lake watching the Europeans we decided to achieve something today and row to the island in the middle of the lake.
The boys rowed us girls across the lake. Chivalry is definitely not dead. Once on the island we saw a cute little church and cafe. The overall feeling of Bled is like going back in time. It is so relaxing to just do absolutely nothing. People can get married in the church under the condition that the man carries the lady up 99 steps to the church. I think it would be quite an entrance having a sweaty man entering a church after the big trek.
The 99 steps. |
The boys feel quite proud of themselves as they secured the boat. |
Tomorrow is our last day of exploring Bled. We are feeling active so we might hire some bicycles.
