Last Day in San Fran

Our last day in San Fran was a very big and full day. We started the morning jumping on board this excellent tour called Dylan's Tour. We heard about him through Claire. So a big thank you,  Dylan was great. He was lovely and drove 14 of us around San Fran in his van answering any question we threw at him. We highly recommend him as he was a wealth of local knowledge. He prides himself for being born and breed here.

Here are just a few random facts that we learnt. There are more dogs in the city than children. Over 80% of the homes and apartments are rented. The city covers only 49 square miles. The burrito was created in the Mission district.

We started with a drive through the shady district of Tenderloin. So glad we were inside a car and not walking on the street.  After driving through here we went onto the Mission district and walked through a street filled with beautiful murals telling stories about the area.

After here we went to Twin Peaks and got lucky as the fog had reduced dramatically. In San Fran they suffer from bad fog this time of year due to the cool air that comes off the Pacific ocean. The view was amazing.

We travelled onto the Haight Ashbury area which is famous for the hippies in 1947. People like Jimmy Hendricks and the Hell's Angels lived here in that time.

Em would be proud. We saw a star today in the park opposite the famous Full House houses. They were filming a movie. The star was Jason Siegel from 'How I met your mother'. The house on the left sold for $4million last year. The row of houses are the second most photographed houses in America after The White House. Another cool Dylan fact.

We went for a walk along a street in Pacific Heights known as Billionaire Drive. Not sure which home we would like to buy one day. The views were amazing.

The weather changes so much here, like Melbourne. We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge when it was covered in fog. Once we got to the other side the fog slightly cleared.

One of the best highlights of the tour was the Muir Woods. It is a national park that is about 19km from the city. It is famous for Coast Redwood trees. The tallest tree in the park is 79 metres high. It was so peaceful walking through the trees.

The tour was so great. We can highly recommend it. Dylan was a great tour guide.

To finish the day off we went to a baseball game to watch the San Francisco Giants play the San Diego Padres. Sadly the Giants lost.
