After a really long flight, a long wait in L.A we finally landed in San Fran. In true tourist style we rode the cable car hanging off the side like the cool kids on the back of the bus. It was a lot of fun going up and down the steep streets ending at Fisherman's Wharf.
Down at Fisherman's Wharf Ben ate a traditional clam chowder for a bit of an afternoon snack. We also saw the big seals down by the pier. They were huge and a little bit smelly.
On our way back to the hotel we tracked down a happy hour for a quiet beer and pear cider.
To really enjoy the American experience we finished the night with dinner at Lori's Diner. We are still in shock with the size of the meals.
Day 2
We spent the morning walking through China Town towards the famous Lombard Street. It is incredibly steep and has about 8 sharp turns. We'll post a picture soon we are just having a few technical issues. We want to show you the crazy guy who skateboarded through the traffic down the street. Very cool.
One of the lovely things of San Fran is the buskers. We had the most expensive coffees in the world (we read the menu wrong) at a lovely cafe were we had the pleasure of listening to a beautiful jazz band.
We did a bit of research in the free San Fran papers and read a write up about a pizza place near Washington Square that makes gluten free pizza. We turned up to find a very packed restaurant. We had to wait for ages to get in so we went to a cafe round the corner and played 'Pass the Pig'. It was very intense game, filled with a lot of 'pig out' calls. We're pretty sure that Benny won.
Tony's pizza was excellent and very well worth the wait. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner. If you are ever in town, do go to Tony's Pizza Cafe.
The night ended with Independence Day Fireworks. It was no Riverfire but still quite impressive.
