Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

So January is well underway and I still haven't had a chance to blog about our Christmas trip. I was just reading a blog and she mentioned that the feeling you get when the aeroplane leaves the tarmac is something you'll never stop chasing. They are so right. We have already started booking our trips for this year. I promise to get back into the swing of more regular updates.

So after our last day of work, we flew to Sofia in Bulgaria for 7 days of skiing with Cam, Elise, and my cousin Chris. Bulgaria is famous for cheap ski holidays. It was filled with lots of UK families. We landed in Sofia and went on a three hour bus ride to Bansko which is one of the main ski areas. The accommodation was nice as a few mentioned on the bus on the way there that things tended to fall off like handles on cupboards. The next morning we were up early ready for skiing. Chris, Cam and I went for our ski test to get into ski school groups. Part of our package included 4 hours of lessons a day. We were put into three separate groups and we hit the slopes. The weather was amazing for our stay. Blue sky's every day. Sadly no snow fell but we had a great time. I was in bed for two days with a bad cold that I got before we left but other than that it was a great holiday.

Bulgaria is an interesting place. We all agreed it wasn't really Chrismassy. No Christmas lights or carols playing. The Bulgarians loved their dance music. On Christmas we decide to go to the grocery store and that was a huge struggle. Lucky for my limited German skills I could translate how to cook the only meat we could find. It was a cryovav pork by a German company. We could only find two vegetables to roast which was carrots and onions. It was a little odd, as it really didn't feel like Christmas, especially with our non-Christmas meal. Elise kindly had bought a few things to decorate the apartment.  It was definitely a lovely holiday skiing but I don't think I'll be rushing back to Bulgaria anytime soon.

We returned back to London on 29 Dec. It was pouring with rain, colder than the ski field and no trains were working to Putney. This really wasn't ideal late on a Saturday night. So we jumped in a black cab for an expensive trip home. Not an amazing end to a holiday.

We had a lovely few days back in London. We spent New Years at a great house party up and very close 20 minutes walk from our flat. It was a great night with friends, filled with yummy champagne, food and games. We went back to work only two short days after. Luckily not long until we go away to the Cotswolds for a weekend and New York in February to see Lauren and Steve.
