A picnic in Green Park

Last night, to celebrate the lovely summer weather we met friends for dinner and drinks in Green Park. Green Park is close to Buckingham Palace. There were hundreds of people in the park, it was a wonderful experience. It was funny seeing people stock up on Marks & Spencers food, all you could see for miles was M&S green bags. It was so lovely to show Nan and Pop how amazing London is in the summer.

The past two weeks

So it has been ages since I have updated the blog. So sorry, it has been very busy over here. Nanna and Pop have been having a wonderful time with us. For the past two weeks we have taken them out for cocktails, taken them on a massive walk from Hampsted via Primrose Hill to St John’s Wood and went to Greenwich to see the lovely Sunday markets.

Last week on Wednesday Benny kindly work up at 4am to take Nan and Pop to the bus station to get on the National Express to the airport. They were off to visit my exchange family. They had the most incredible time. They had two nights in Inzell with Renate, Hans and Alexander followed by two nights in Vienna with Jutta and Sebastian. They successfully got back on Sunday night from the airport to our front door with no assistance. I was so proud of them. Their time in Inzell and Vienna was a big highlight of their trip so far. They were even lucky enough to see snow fall in Inzell.

Ben and I had a quiet weekend while Nan and Pop were away. Ben spent Saturday watching three games of sport starting with the Queensland Reds game. I spent the day at home sewing away on my lovely machine that Ben gave me for Christmas. The dress is turning out so well as Nanna is teaching me a few tricks of the trade. On Saturday night I went to the movies with Lee and Mossy while Ben was watching the third sport game of the day, the Champion Leagues final. I was taken to a great sushi restaurant, it was so tasty. My favourite was the soft shell crab.

On Sunday, Ben and I had a sleeped in and we went on an adventure to a haberdashery store that someone at work had told me about. It was in Tooting Bec, after a train and a short bus ride we arrived and discovered it was closed, whoops, I should have checked the website. Lucky for us, our next destination of the day, a sofa store, was only one bus ride away. The bad news, traffic was rubbish as the store was in Chelsea and they were having a street parade for celebrating their win in the Champion League final. I was also incredibly desperate for a toilet stop so we got off the bus early and dropped into a pub. We ended up staying for lunch and I had a fantastic Asian salad and Benny decided to try something different, a Sunday roast pork. After our input, output stop we walked to the sofa store and sat in many comfortable chairs.

Yesterday (Tuesday), I was in a summer mood. It was the first real hot day in a while. I decided to risk it and wear no jacket and open shoes to work when it was only 12 degrees in the morning. By 11 is was a beautiful sunny hot day. It was so nice that Benny and I thought it would be perfect weather to go to the local park after work and have drinks, with cheese and biscuits. We got home around 8pm and had a lovely dinner cooked by Benny.

Tonight we are off with my grandparents and a few friends to Green Park for a picnic dinner. Tomorrow Ben is taking Pop to a trivia night with a few of his friends and I’m taking Nanna to the Chelsea Flower Show. This weekend we are off to Brussels early Saturday morning and will return on Monday.

"Bloody beautiful"

Well this has taken over a week to write, apologies.

Nan and Pop have been staying with us for the past two weeks. On their first weekend Benny and I had organised very good British weather of being freezing cold and wet. On the Sunday we went to have a traditional roast lunch at a local place. Nan and Pop really liked it and it was a chance to meet our friends Lee and Mossy. After lunch we went for a walk along the river. On their first weekend Nanna even had time to teach me how to make cornflake biscuits. Very yummy.

I took Monday off and spent the day with them. We went to the National Gallery and had lunch in Trafalgar Square. We went to Westminister to see Big Ben and Houses of Parliament. We walked around a few gardens admiring the tulips and walked across to Waterloo. Nanna and Pop safely got home by themselves on the train to Putney. For the rest of the week they spent their days wandering around Putney.

Last weekend we just had we went to Cornwall. We picked up a hire car straight after work on Friday and drove a really long time, through Friday rush hour, general congestion and a car accident to finally arrive at our accommodation at 10:40 than the expected time of 8:40pm. We stayed right on the water at a gorgeous 2 bed apartment. We turned up and to our surprise the fridge was stocked with juice, bread, milk and coffee/tea. We got up in the morning to a magnificent view, you could jump off our balcony onto the sand if you wanted to.

On our first day we drove to Land's End through the country side were we heard Pop say almost every 5 minutes "This is bloody beautiful". We heard these words over our three days in Cornwall and it was wonderful. We saw so many sheep, cattle and fields of canola. The landscape was amazing. There were little coves along the sew front with big cliff drops. On out way to Land's End we stopped at Pinzance, it is a smallish town. There is a magnificent castle on an island that you can walk to when it is low tide. For some unusual reason the castle was closed on a Saturday but we were still able to walk across and have a look.

On the Sunday we did some more driving and explored parts of Plymouth and Launceston. Across the weekend we ended up driving 800 kilometres. Plymouth was great. It is a quite a big city set in a harbour. We had the best scones with jam and clotted cream and a tiny little cafe. There was heaps of sail boats out as the weather was pretty good. Once home we went out for dinner at a place called Kahuna which is at the foot of a tiny beach like Little Cove. As the sun goes down really late now we were able to sit through the whole dinner being able to admire the beach and the boys on their stag do. It is really confusing Nan and Pop that the sun goes down late. I am training them to go to bed after 10:30 and sleep in which is a good change.

On the Monday, which was a Bank Holiday we drove to Bath where Nan and Pop were continuing their journey and we were going back home.  Before our drive we did a quick walk along the cliffs from where we had just been staying. The views were amazing. I couldn't believe that the water was so clear and an unusual green colour. The thing I couldn't get used to was seeing little rabbits hopping everywhere including on the sand. They were so fast it was hard for us to take pictures of them. To get to Bath we drove through Honiton. Because of the holiday most things were shut. We stopped in for lunch and a quick look at the antique stores. After that we heard more of Pop's catch phrase and drove through the country side again. When we got to Bath we checked Nan and Pop into a cute hotel in a quiet part of Bath. It was on the banks of a river and Pop had requested a view with the best view. Ben and I just had time to see the Roman Baths before catching the train back to London. The Roman Baths were really interesting and beautiful. Pop I think was the most impressed. It was sad and a bit scary to leave Nan and Pop. They were going to be driving on UK roads listening to the Sat Nav for the next three days. Luckily they arrived safely home on Thursday night.

This weekend we are going to explore parts of London. Nan and Pop are off to Inzell and Vienna this week to meet Renate and see Jutta. They are really looking forward to it.
