S is for Snow and F is for Freezing

This weekend we had snow in London. It was fantastic but also chaos. London is not too prepared for the once a year snow that falls. Last night we had about 10 centimetres fall. We were at our friends house in Clapham for a lovely meal for their house warming. When I left our house it had just started lightly snowing. At the end of dinner the snow was really falling. The boys took the opportunity to go and have snow ball fights outside. Jackets and gloves were apparently not required for the fights. The boys came in very wet and cold but they did have a lot of fun. At about 12 we thought it was time to think about getting home. It was no surprise no buses were running, no trains and two cab companies had closed for the night. Luckily someone turned up in a cab and Jimmy the nice driver drove us back to Putney. The traffic was chaos and so many people were on the street trying to get home and playing in the snow.

We woke up this morning to the snow still outside. Only a little bit had melted away. I was pleased to have bought the snow shoes back in Germany as they were required on the way to the grocery shops. There were no street cleaners taking the snow away. The best place to walk was in the middle of the road as the footpath was just like a slushy and a little icy. Hopefully tomorrow's adventure to work isn't too hard. A few stations closed this morning as they had no staff. The joys of London. We had plans to go to north London today to explore but it was postponed due to the snow.

The first signs of snow on my way out.

On our way to the grocery store.

We had a good rest of the week, with Benny's birthday and going to a play on Thursday. The only problem this week was how freezing it was. It was horrible, the mild weather has definitely disappeared. Ben said by the time we get back from Australia it should be a lot warmer. Fingers crossed.
